Dear Reader:
In Composition II my writing skills improved. I developed my critical reading strategies; rhetorical approaches; evaluating, planning, and revising my papers; researching strategies and proper MLA formatting.
During Composition II my critical reading strategies improved beyond that of which I had acquired from Composition I. We read sample essay out of the book for this course, _________. We would analyze the arguments from each essay, find weak points in the argument, reform the arguments so they would stand up, and try to refute it. We also critically read others papers and helped to make them better.
We also got practice with planning, evaluating, and revising papers. We read sample papers out of __________ and used those to help formulate our papers. After we wrote our papers other people in the class would read and evaluate them. I also read my paper aloud to hear when I had to many word, or when something didn’t sound right. Smarthinking.com was also useful, I submitted my paper to them so they could revue it revue it.
The last paper that I did was a research paper. I learned how to correctly search for reliable sources, mainly on EBSCOhost. Normally .com sites aren’t credible unless credible references can be found. Site that end in .gov or .edu can be trusted. Searching off Google or Yahoo will give you a lot of information that isn’t always that reliable but it is a good place to start a research paper.
My MLA formatting skills have also improved. On the last paper that I wrote, the research paper, we had to make a works cited page and in-text citations. I learned the proper formatting for each of the two MLA citations.

Comp II Goal Statements
1. Demonstrate critical reading and rereading strategies for expository and persuasive writing.
Over the course of the class we were required to right four papers. Each paper had drafts associated with it. So working on all of those drafts has given me more experience with critical reading and rereading strategies for expository and persuasive writing. We also read over other people’s papers in the class. We look for specific things like, whether or not the statement was arguable or if there was first person speech used in the paper.
2. Demonstrate and analyze rhetorical approaches in texts for persuasive and expository writing.
The definition of the rhetoric is undue use of exaggeration or display. In one of my papers I overstated some of the evidence to more support my position. If I knew that we were supposed to use exaggerations in my papers I would have used them more than I did.
3. Evaluate and apply appropriate planning, drafting, revisions, and editing strategies for persuasive and expository writing.
As I said before we created drafts for each of the papers that we wrote. In my Comp I class we had specific due date for each of the planning stages, drafts, revisions, and final draft. If the kind of schedule was applied to Comp II it would be a lot better of a course. I felt that this course had loose deadlines for each draft, if there was one; the final draft had a nice and definite dead line. I also feel that there isn’t proper preparation for the paper portfolio. In my last class about this time, we were starting to put everything in a folder and organizing them. Because of the more strict and definite deadlines on each of the papers item was easier that it will be to set up a paper portfolio. I feel that most classes word work better with a strict but flexible schedule; a specific due date set up for each item, but the ability to shift dates around if things come up.
4. Identify and apply appropriate concepts from primary and secondary sources for persuasive and expository writing.
In Comp I we learned which sites are reliable and which one are not so reliable. Print sources like books and some magazines are more reliable than not. Online sources are not always easy to determine the reliability. There are a few easy one though, .govs’ are one of those and most .edus’ are also reliable. If you get you source from an online database like EBSCOhost which is reviewed by credible people than it will be credible. I got more practice with researching and finding credible sources in Comp II.
5. Demonstrate the proper use of Modern Language Association (MLA) or American Psychological Association.
I also learned how to cite sources in Comp I and received more practice in Comp II. I Comp I I received a packet that had the instruction on how to cite most sources correctly. I also found a cite called www.easybib.com this is correct most of the time, and very convenient when you need to get the sources down quick and have time to go back over the cited sources and check for errors.

Grand Theft Auto Pop Culture
On the back of the Grand Theft Auto Game its preview reads,
Liberty City, USA.
The Worst Place in America.
You’ve been betrayed and left for dead. Now you’re taking revenge, unless the city gets you first. Mob bosses need a favor, crooked cops need help and street gangs want you dead. You’ll have to rob, steal and kill just to stay out of serious trouble.
Anything Can Happen Out There.
This intro to the game puts whoever is playing the game into the position of being a hit man like person for mob bosses. Kids are playing this game and that is not the kind of position that they should be in.
I am going to use it for an example of the situation that children are allowed to be in by there parents, and why they should not be allowed to be in those situation.
Grand Theft Auto III. Rockstar Games, 2001.
In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas there is a cheat that can be downloaded to unlock the “hot coffee” modification. Hot coffee allows the “players who downloaded a special program view explicit oral sex.” The code that allow player to view “hot coffee” was not found until a year after Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released. This code offended many people and the brought charges against Grand Theft Auto / Take Two. The people who were offended could go to the stores and exchange it for a “fellatio-free version.” The “hot coffee” code that was left in the game unfinished cost Take Two tens of millions of dollars. $2.75 of that was used to pay plaintiffs. “Take Two CEO Ben Federer admitted that his company is essentially buying off plaintiffs to make the lawsuit disappear. ‘We believe it is in the best interest of the company to avoid protected and costly litigation to prove our case and to finally put this matter behind us,’ he said.”
I am going to use this information as an example of the bad things that are in the game that kids should not be exposed to.

“Texting, chatting, updating his calendar. No, Niko hasn’t turned into a Japanese schoolgirl; he’s just addicted to his phone. Game play wise, he can initiate missions by calling key contacts. Or, when he needs a piece, he simply calls “Little Jacob” and sets up a direct-from-the-trunk alleyway shopping experience.”
I am going to use this to show that they are making the game more realistic. More real-life actions, and being able to call people and find illegal, non-listed guns. More bad things for kids to be exposed to.

restaurant review critizied
The restaurant review entitled, “Panera Bread Review”, was one-sided. McCall started the review with a list of things that he thought Panera Bread was like. I looked online and found that those were close to the same words the Panera Bread had on its own sit. The reasons that he used to support his opinion were, “a warm welcoming atmosphere, food that is full of flavor, and is involved with the community.”
McCall picked the best time to review Panera Bread, in the either spring or summer, and right after they cleaned the parking lot, and the building. In other seasons, fall and winter, it is a total different story. In the fall there are leaves everywhere in the parking lot and the sidewalks, showing the employees lack of concern for their outward appearance. The winter is even worse. If you go in early for coffee the sidewalks are not shoveled, and the parking lot is not fully plowed. There was one instance where I had to wait for the snow plow to finish his job before I could even park.
As I walked inside, unlike McCall, There were huge lines for the cash registers. I couldn’t get my food quickly, and the people that were standing in the lines were irritable. The same colors the McCall found to be of a “homey feel”, “shades of green, orange, brown and tan”, made the place seem dark and uninviting. After waiting for a long time I ordered my food, was given a number, and was push to the side very quickly by the cashier. I could understand not idly talking to me but the cashier should recognize me as a person instead of just another number or customer. My number was called sometime later.
My order was exactly what I ordered, which I was pleased about, seeing that was the first satisfactory thing that happened so far. I have had a couple different items from Panera Bread menu, unlike McCall who only had one. The sandwich he tried, the Chicken Chipotle, is defiantly the best one they have. There sandwich menu is divided up into parts, Panini, Café, and Signature sandwiches. The Panini and half of the Signature sandwiches are good enough to eat more than once. The other half of the Signature sandwiches you might try once and then not want to eat again.

Panera Bread is a restaurant that is between a fast food, and sit-down. Panera Bread has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, food that is full of flavor, and is involved with the community. Overall Panera Bread is a first-rate place to eat at because of their welcoming atmosphere, there flavorful food, and there involvement with the community.As you walk up to Panera Bread you see table outside with people enjoying their meal and the summer weather in the shade. The sidewalks and parking lot lack any debris that would have blown in or have been discarded by a careless customer. This shows there determination and effort the employees put forth to make the customers experience just that much more enjoyable. As you walk in the door you encounter a very homey feel. Everyone is satisfied with their meal and enjoying it peacefully. The colors that you see are shades of green, orange, brown and tan, along with the lighting, not too dark but not too bright, enhance the homey feel. I was greeted as I came in the door; my order was taken at the counter by a very nice associate. The associate started talking to my about current events, and before I knew it my food was ready. I walked down to the counter to pick up my food and noticed how clean the floors and counters were, another example of Panera Bread’s associates determination and effort. When I received my food the associate preparing the food said “enjoy your meal.” After I ate my food I walked up to the manager and ask for information on what Panera and its associates were about and the manager handed me a card with the rules that the employees go by.This card has in words what I experienced in coming to Panera Bread; everything from coming into the store to getting my food.Panera Bread offers a wide verity of foods. They have deserts, sandwich bread, bagels and many other types of bread. All of their bread is made fresh every morning by trained artisan bakers. In addition to the bread baked in the morning before the store opens more cookies and baguettes are made during the day to ensure the product is as fresh as possible. All of Panera Breads sandwiches and salads are made right when you order. It is really easy to special order any kind of sandwich. You can get them on bagels, you can add any kind of topping they have to any sandwich. The sandwich that I tried was the Chicken Chipotle. It as a chipotle sauce on french bread topped with fresh tomatoes, freshly sliced cheddar cheese, bacon, and pepper mustard chicken, and then toasted to perfection. I really like this sandwich, when I tool my first bit of it the spiciness of the chipotle sauce hit me. At other restaurants like this the sauce is never spicy so it was a pleasant surprise. The fresh tomatoes, cheddar cheese and pepper mustard chicken blended well together to create a well balanced sandwich. Since I only tried one sandwich I asked the other customers how they felt about the food. One family all had the same salad and when I asked them about they said it was the Chicken Creaser Salad. It was all of their favorites menu.Panera Bread believes is giving back to the community. They do this by showing their appreciation for the customers, sponsoring events, participating in charitable events, and Operation Dough-Nation® programs (Panera Bread). Operation Dough-Nation was instated in 1992 and formalized Panera Bread’s involvement with the community. It as a chipotle sauce on french bread topped with fresh tomatoes, freshly sliced cheddar cheese, bacon, and pepper mustard chicken, and then toasted to perfection. I really like this sandwich, when I tool my first bit of it the spiciness of the chipotle sauce hit me. At other restaurants like this the sauce is never spicy so it was a pleasant surprise. The fresh tomatoes, cheddar cheese and pepper mustard chicken blended well together to create a well balanced sandwich. Since I only tried one sandwich I asked the other customers how they felt about the food. One family all had the same salad and when I asked them about they said it was the Chicken Creaser Salad. It was all of their favorites menu.
Panera Bread believes is giving back to the community. They do this by showing their appreciation for the customers, sponsoring events, participating in charitable events, and Operation Dough-Nation® programs (Panera Bread). Operation Dough-Nation was instated in 1992 and formalized Panera Bread’s involvement with the community. Operation Dough-Nation has two parts the Community Breadbox, and the Day-End Dough-Nation.
The Community Breadbox program is a place where customers or anyone can donate money to feed back into the community. Panera Bread matches a part of the donations made and directs the money to non-profit organizations.
The Day-End Dough-Nation program packages the unsold bread and allows non-profit organization to sign up to pick up bread at the end of the day. Local food banks and charities are the normal groups who take advantage of Day-End Dough-Nation. Over the past few years Panera Bread has donated more that $12 million worth of bread (Panera Bread).
Panera Bread is a first-rate place to eat because of the welcoming atmosphere, its friendly and respectful associates, its flavorful food, and its involvement with the community. I would highly recommend Panera Bread, and so would many of the other regular customers.

intro paragraph
Panera Bread is; a baker of bread, fresh from the oven, a symbol of warmth and welcome, a simple pleasure, honest and genuine, a life story told over dinner, a long lunch with an old friend, your weekday morning ritual, the kindest gesture of neighbors, home, family, and fiends (Panera Bread). Panera Bread is a restaurant that is between a fast food, and sit-down. Panera Bread has a great atmosphere, food, and is involved with the community. Overall Panera Bread is a good place.
LS- I thought that the opening was good but maybe you need to state your position in thesis more specifically. The intro did make me want to learn more about the place though, even pulling me into somewhat loving this place even though I the reader don’t even know what this place is. Your position did seem arguable to me. Use more specific wording at the end of the intro it was good except for near the end.
AN – Your first paragraph is good overall, you don’t need the semi colon after is in the first sentence. You have an arguable position, however, be careful in using good and great as your words to describe the place as it is somewhat ambiguous in nature. What does good mean, what does great mean? I like all the description you use to set a scene, so we feel what Panera is, but try adding description of what you see at the location.
